When a standard irrigation company can't figure out why half your zones stopped responding, that's the call we get. 2-wire decoder systems fail in ways that require specific diagnostic equipment and experience — TDR meters to locate wire faults, decoder diagnostic software to identify addressing issues, and an understanding of how path resistance and communication timing interact.
We carry TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry) equipment on every service vehicle. A TDR sends a signal down the wire path and measures the reflection to locate a break or fault to within a few feet — without excavating. In most cases, we can locate a fault before your current contractor has finished guessing.
Beyond wire faults, we diagnose decoder failures, solenoid problems, controller communication errors, flow sensor faults, and hydraulic issues. Most commercial repair calls are resolved in a single visit.

Initial Diagnostic Call
We gather system history, current symptoms, and any error codes or recent work done on the system before scheduling a site visit. Many issues can be partially diagnosed remotely.
Site Visit & Inspection
On-site visual inspection of the controller, wire path terminations, valve boxes, and affected zones. We review system history and error logs from the controller.
TDR Wire Scan
TDR scanning of the wire path to locate any breaks, shorts, or high-resistance connections. Results are accurate to within a few feet, identifying the excavation target before digging.
Decoder & Zone Testing
Individual zone and decoder testing using diagnostic software to identify failed decoders, addressing conflicts, or solenoid problems.
Repair Execution
Wire repairs, decoder replacement, solenoid repair or replacement, and controller reconfiguration as needed. All parts stocked on service vehicles for common repair scenarios.
System Verification
Full zone-by-zone test following repair to confirm the issue is resolved and no additional faults exist. Repair report with root cause and corrective action provided.

For properties with active turf damage or system failures affecting large areas, we prioritize same-day or next-day response. Standard repair requests are typically scheduled within 3–5 business days.
What if the problem is with the controller, not the wiring?
Controller diagnostics are part of every repair visit. We carry loaner controllers for most major platforms and can test the system with a substitute controller to isolate whether the problem is in the wire path or the controller itself.
Do you work on systems you didn't install?
Yes. We repair 2-wire systems from any manufacturer and any original installer. We'll need access to system documentation if available, but can work from scratch if documentation isn't available.
What does a TDR scan cost?
TDR diagnostic is included in our standard commercial service call. We don't charge extra for bringing diagnostic equipment — it's part of how we find the problem.
